El Paso’s Eden Performing Arts returns to the Jewel Box Series with a localized adaptation of Tom Griffin’s comedy-drama, The Boys Next Door.

It will be performed at 2:30 pm Sunday, March 15 in the Plaza Theatre’s Philanthropy Theatre.

Part of the El Paso Community Foundation Jewel Box Series at the Philanthropy Theatre’s 10th anniversary season, general admission tickets are $15, on sale at the Plaza Theatre Box Office (no service fees) and Ticketmaster (with service fees). The box office is open 10 am-3 pm weekdays and three hours before showtime.

The Boys Next Door, which premiered in 1986, is set in the Boston area, but Eden’s production moves the action closer to home. It focuses on four men with intellectual disabilities, who live in a group home, and their stressed out social worker.

It is told as a series of brief vignettes over a two-month period. We get to know them in scenes that range from touching to comic, sad to dramatic.

Mario Rodriguez directs the six-member cast.

The Jewel Box Series was created in 2014 in partnership with El Paso Live to host local performing artists and groups in that jewel box of a venue, the Philanthropy Theatre in the Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Centre. The monthly series runs each fall through spring.
