450 Pets Spayed & Neutered—A Big Win for El Paso 🐾

In just one weekend, 450 owned pets in El Paso received spay and neuter services, microchips and vaccines for free—a powerful example of what’s possible when our community comes together.

Held March 13–15, the second annual Spay-A-Thon brought together El Paso Animal Services, Friends of El Paso Animal Services, and the El Paso Community Foundation to expand access to affordable care for families across our region.

With the help of generous donors—and a $10,000 match from the Borderland Rescue Fund and Trev’s Ranch Last Litter Fund—we were able to bring in experienced veterinary teams and complete hundreds of procedures in just three days.

This work matters. Access to spay and neuter services helps keep pets healthy and safe, supports families, and reduces the number of animals entering our shelters. As Eric Pearson, President and CEO of the El Paso Community Foundation, shared:

“The health of our community comes down to how we take care of our residents. It’s not always about big infrastructure—it’s about access. That includes caring for pets, which helps keep families together and animals out of shelters and off the streets.”

There’s still more to do—and you can help. By supporting future spay and neuter efforts, you’re helping ensure more families have access to the care they need to keep their pets healthy and at home.
