Peter Pan has a backstory. Find out more about the boy who doesn’t want to grow up when El Paso’s SOMOS Performance Group stages the family friendly Peter and the Starcatcher at 2:30 pm Sunday, March 9 in the Plaza Theatre’s Philanthropy Theatre. It’s part of the El Paso Community Foundation Jewel Box Series at the Philanthropy Theatre.
General admission tickets are $15, on sale at the Plaza Theatre Box Office (no service fees) and Ticketmaster (with service fees).
Peter and the Starcatcher, based on the popular children’s books by journalist Dave Barry and novelist Ridley Pearson, tells the backstories of Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Hook and Mrs. Darling. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, it playfully explores the depths of greed and despair, and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.
This production is the first by SOMOS, a new performing arts group founded by Beth Leffler and Josey Pickett, a mother-daughter team of performers and educators, and educator Manny Lothamer. It features an 11-member cast with UTEP Dinner Theatre regular Pickett directing, with assistant direction from Leffler, and music direction by Jonathan Contreras.
Now in its ninth season, the Jewel Box Series was created in partnership with El Paso Live in 2014 to host local performing artists and groups in that jewel box of a venue, the Philanthropy Theatre in the Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Centre.
The venue allows only clear bags or small clutches. For policy details go to elpasolive.com.
