New play ‘The Mad Flower’ blooms at Jewel Box finale May 11th!

Celebrate Mother’s Day with a matinee performance of The Mad Flower, a new play by El Paso theater educators Talia Leilani Davila and Noelle Mullenix that will conclude the 2024-2025 season of the El Paso Community Foundation Jewel Box Series at the Philanthropy Theatre.

The debut performance of El Paso’s Mad Flower Productions blooms at 2:30 pm Sunday, May 11 — Mother’s Day — in the Philanthropy Theatre inside the Plaza Theatre complex.

General admission tickets are $15, on sale at the Plaza Theatre Box Office (no service fees) and Ticketmaster (with service fees). The box office is open 10 am-3 pm weekdays and beginning at 11:30 a.m. the day of the show.

The Mad Flower is a new play by Talia Leilani Davila, theater arts teacher at Bel Air High School, and Noelle Mullenix, theater arts teacher at Eastwood High School. It is about three discontented women who meet in a dance class. Combining theater and dance, the play embarks on the absurdity of love, loss, and life’s ultimate lesson — learning to dance through your own madness.

Now in its ninth season, the Jewel Box Series was created in partnership with El Paso Live in 2014 to host local performing artists and groups in that jewel box of a venue, the Philanthropy Theatre in the Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Centre. The monthly series runs each fall through spring.

Applications for the 2025-2026 season open Monday, May 12. Go to epcf.org/jewelbox to submit.

The venue allows only clear bags or small clutches. Visit elpasolive.com for details.
