We now know what the El Paso children’s museum and science center will look like.
We know what will be in it.
But what are we going to call it? That is where El Pasoans and the Name the Museum Challenge come in.
The community is invited to submit suggestions for the name of the world-class, $70 million museum, now under construction. A special project of the El Paso Community Foundation and the City of El Paso, it is scheduled to open in downtown El Paso in 2022.
From its cloud-like design by the New York office of Norway’s Snohetta to its four floors of themed exhibitions by California’s Gyroscope Inc., the state-of-the-art education and science center will be highly interactive, educational, inclusive — and fun.
The Name the Museum Challenge features an easy and fun-filled submission process:
• Step 1 - Think of a name for the new El Paso children’s museum and science center. Names may be inspired by the design and the dynamic exhibit spaces inside. Go to epcmuseum.org to submit ideas — and get some inspiration.
• Step 2 – Record ideas creatively. Songs, dances, videos and drawings are welcome.
• Step 3 – Share ideas on social media using the hashtag #NameTheMuseumChallenge or click here.
“From the very beginning, the El Paso Community Foundation has been committed to community input, so it is only natural that we want the community to be involved in naming the museum and science center,” said Interim Director Stephanie Otero, Vice President of Operations for the El Paso Community Foundation.
The grand prize is a Lifetime Membership to the museum. Other prizes will be awarded during the challenge, which ends May 1.
The El Paso children’s museum was approved by El Paso voters as part of a Quality of Life Bond election in 2012.
