El Paso Community Foundation receives architecture award. El Paso to host Architecture Conference in October

The El Paso Community Foundation received the Cornerstone Award from the Texas Society of Architects (TxA) for our innovative architectural projects in El Paso. In 1986, the Foundation saved the Plaza Theater from demolition and conversion into a parking garage. The success of the restoration assisted in further investment in the area. Consequently, the Roderick Artspace Lofts were developed to provide affordable live/workspace for artists. We also led the international design competition for the new children’s museum. Snohetta was selected for the innovative build, and La Nube: The Shape of Imagination is under construction right now.

In additional wonderful news, the Texas Society of Architects Annual Conference will be hosted here in El Paso.

It holds this conference to recognize outstanding individuals, firms, and organizations that support the architecture industry and its remarkable achievements. The 2022 Honor Award recipients will be recognized at this year’s annual conference.

El Paso will host the Texas Society of Architects Annual Conference and Design Expo for the first time in 40 years! TxA’s 83rd Annual Conference will be October 27-29 at the Judson F. Williams Convention Center.

Who will be there?

The event will feature guest speakers and will serve as a space where architects can showcase their brands, products, and future plans. Among the speakers is El Paso native Elaine Molinar, architect and managing partner of Snøhetta. Elaine is the designer for La Nube.

The festivities also include an Oct. 27 tour of the Plaza Theatre by Gary Williams, senior program officer of the El Paso Community Foundation, and performances on the theater’s Wyler Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ by world-renowned organist Walt Strony and El Paso’s own Rick Garven.
